Green CardDepardieu and MacDowell head the cast of this popular comedy drama, as two disparate folks - a louche Frenchman and a prissy horticulturalist who enter into a marriage of convenience and end up discovering the delights of each other just as the authorities begin to close in on the Gallic immigrant. Weir's film has its fair share of cute moments as the opposites slowly begin to attract, but this is largely over rated stuff, which proved curiously popular with critics on its release. Depardieu does his obnoxious-yet-strangely-lovable act with ease; however, the romantic comedy fixture MacDowell is less convincing.
