Hard edged shocker
This is a truly horrific movie that deals 'head-on' with child abuse and which is based loosely on a true story (that of 16 year old Sylvia Likens) and that Jack Ketchum fictionalised as a horror novel. Taken in by their Aunt, who is obviously mentally disturbed, two young sisters become the victims of her sadistic games. The older sister endures increasingly severe cruelties until she finally dies. What makes this all the more incredible (remembering that this is based on fact) is that the woman encouraged her own childern to participate in the girl's torture and also included the local neighbourhood children.
