Bertram Pincus is a man whose people skills leave much to be desired. When Pincus dies unexpectedly, but is miraculously revived after seven minutes, he wakes up to discover that he now has the annoying ability to see ghosts. Even worse, they all want something from him, particularly Frank Herlihy, who pesters him into breaking up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen.
Not The Office but Not Bad
Yes, this is a rom-com with an up-beat ending. However, it is markedly better than the standard releases we are served up with. If you have any liking for Gervais's ascerbic comedy then I think you will like this.
I went along expecting to be disappointed by being presented with a Gervais Hollywood sell-out, but he hasn't really done that. His character is quite unpleasant much of the time and even if his character reform is rather sudden and a touch incredible (within a story about a man who can see ghosts), it is just about swallowable because there is enough within Gervais's portrayal for you to want him to change.
Amid the congested pantheon of romantic male leads, one would be hard-pressed to find a more improbable candidate than Ricky Gervais. I mean, can we talk? Even if one could somehow exorcise images of David Brent, the gaseous desk jockey immortalized by Gervais in the BBC comedy "The Office," one would still have to reckon with the package: the squat, orb-like frame, the craggy smile spiked with stalactite-like canines that would be the envy of the entire Transylvania vampire workers union.

Smartly supernatural, and featuring sensational performances by Ricky Gervais and Tea Leoni, Ghost Town is a Topper for our times, and will probably do for Gervais what his previous projects haven't -- namely, brand the Emmy-winning Brit comic in America as a source of sophisticated, snarky fun. I really enjoyed this film, some very funny moments in it. You can tell Ricky Gervais had some input into the film. I thought he gave a good performance for his first ever lead role in a film. Very enjoyable 4/5
wasnt as brilliant as I thought it'd be. I mean maybe I overrated it! But anyway, Ricky's mean,dont giva a damn, annoying humour made it worth watching! Obvious story and ending. Wandering souls!
