GettysburgThis elaborate history lesson on the American Civil War's most decisive battle, fought over three days in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is buttock-numbingly lengthy (nearly four and a half hours) but is nonetheless absorbing viewing. Filmed on an epic scale at Gettysburg National Military Park, and featuring thousands of Civil War reenactors as extras, the battle sequences are inevitably breathtaking and graphic, but the picture also has a human angle, conveyed through the personal accounts of soldiers that punctuate the action. The likes of Daniels, Berenger and Sheen give it their all and sport some of the finest facial hair ever seen on film.
