Nothing encapsulates Get Rich or Die Tryin' better than the notorious billboard image of star Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson with a gun in one hand and a microphone in the other. It was a bad idea to promote that likeness near schools, but it certainly tells you everything you need to know about the film it advertises.
More inspired by than closely following hard-core rapper Jackson's chaotic life from drug dealer to music superstar, Get Rich is a motion picture with one foot in artistic expression and one in pulp fiction and commercialized violence. It wants the respect that goes with a quality production, but it can't resist providing the brutality and exploit...
Those of you hoping to see an ego-tastic shoot-out with mumbling for acting and a plot that never starts will love this - we can only hope that he's now so rich that he never has to make another movie and force his inexcrable "acting" skills on the public again!

Under-rated 50
This movie really is something remarkable. Here is the thing, Jim Sheridan, an Irish filmmaker, brings in his own themes of the search for a father. We know it all too well from his films with Daniel Day Lewis, In the name of the father, the boxer, my left foot, etc. Here we have Curtis '50 cent' jackson, and the movie is portayed through the light of an irish eye... no longer do we have the proto-typical gangster movie. Watch for key scenes, strong, strong acting. The story is amazing, because the horrors that happen to this character have actually happened to the lead actor. Get Rich Or Die Tryin' offers an even more unlikely collaboration than 8 Mile, which saw sophisticated director Curtis Hanson join forces with cuss-crazy rap-star Eminem. It almost sounds like a joke: the buff Queens-born rapper 50 Cent - or Curtis Jackson, as he is known here - and the ageing Irish director Jim Sherdian (yes, he of In The Name Of The Father and The Boxer fame) working together. But that is the selling point of Get Rich Or Die Tryin' - named after 50 Cent's debut album. Sadly, this sub-Boyz N The Hood effort never produces the fireworks this unusual pairing promises.
