Good kitty! Superior in every way to its underwhelming predecessor, Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties is a genuinely clever kidpic that should delight moppets, please parents -- and maybe tickle a few tweens. The Fox release faces a real catfight at the box office, however: In addition to Cars and Over the Hedge, the surprisingly child-friendly Nacho Libre also is competing for family auds. But, if the disappointingly tepid Garfield: The Movie (2004) could gross nearly $200 million worldwide, this frisky follow-up may could claw its way toward even more impressive grosses before it catapults to the top of homevid sales charts.

Why oh why oh why did I rent this when the first was so bad ? Answer. For the kids.

A plot with zero imagination or originality that lurched painfully to its inevitable conclusion; a staggeringly clunky script; a collection of quite frighteningly unendearing and irritating animal 'characters'; and the usual tiresome 'Americans in London' stuff. An undistinguished display of acting all round, with even Billy Connolly looking like he was sleepwalking through his stereotyped scheming villain role.

Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties is strictly for those who were fans of the first movie, die-hard fans of Garfield, or those two young to form completely coherent sentenc...

The Garfield sequel, A Tale of Two Kitties, is trying hard to emulate the magic of Babe, adding a stable full of barnyard animals to back up the unlikable feline.

But it comes off like a coughed-up furball: a wan rehash with too many elements of the hard-to-swallow 2004 original. Garfield may be a popular comic-strip character, but he doesn't exactly light up the big screen.

Bill Murray again provides the voice for the obnoxious, bloated housecat so beloved by knuckle-headed, but well-meaning, owner Jon (Breckin Meyer). This time, Jon plans to propose to his veterinarian girlfriend Liz (Jennifer Love Hewitt, almost sleeping through the performance)...
