Clark Kellogg is a young man starting his first year at film school in New York City. After a small time crook steals all his belongings, Clark meets Carmine "Jimmy the Toucan" Sabatini, an "importer" bearing a startling resemblance to a certain cinematic godfather. When Sabatini makes Clark an offer he can't refuse, he finds himself caught up in a caper involving endangered species and fine dining.
Brando deserves praise
Ok so it's not Brando's most brilliant movie, but it does not deserve the slating that it received from some so called critics. In this light comedy Broderick discovers that a local business man looks exactly like the Godfather from the movies. He becomes entrapped in his dodgey dealings and this movie follow's Broderick's plight as he is faced with the dillema of whether to turn the 'Godfather' in to the feds or stay loyal to him. I watched nervously as I had read some criticism about this movie, mainly regarding Brando's choice to reprise his role as Godfather in this comedy - as if it were somehow beneath him. Great easy watching film - nice one for a Sunday afternoon !
Marlon Brando plays a parody of his Godfather character in this funny send-up of the sometimes stuffy genre of Mafia melodrama. Matthew Broderick plays a film student who gets drawn into working for the mob under the tutelage of Capo Brando. To begin with he gets by undetected thanks to his expertise in the cinema's depiction of the criminal community, but will his knowledge help or hinder his safety in the long run? It's a nice premise, film informing life, and Bergman's film succeeds thanks to its sprightly pace, modest but fully realised ambition and the ever affable Broderick. Brando is hilarious.
