Based on the true story of college professor and part-time inventor Robert Kearns' long battle with the U.S. automobile industry, Flash of Genius tells the tale of one man whose fight to receive recognition for his ingenuity would come at a heavy price. But this determined engineer refused to be silenced, and he took on the corporate titans in a battle that nobody thought he could win. The Kearns were a typical 1960s Detroit family, trying to live their version of the American Dream. Local university professor Bob married teacher Phyllis and, by their mid-thirties, had six kids who brought th... em a hectic but satisfying Midwestern existence. When Bob invents a device that would eventually be used by every car in the world, the Kearns think they have struck gold. But their aspirations are dashed after the auto giants who embraced Bob's creation unceremoniously shunned the man who invented it. Ignored, threatened and then buried in years of litigation, Bob is haunted by what was done to his family and their future. He becomes a man obsessed with justice and the conviction that his life's work-or for that matter, anyone's work-be acknowledged by those who stood to benefit. And while paying the toll for refusing to compromise his dignity, this everyday David will try the unthinkable: to bring Goliath to his knees.

As a story of dogged perseverance at the cost of a personal life, Flash of Genius is compelling stuff. On top of that, we all like to see a rousing tale of a little guy triumphing over a faceless corporate giant. While some scenes deliver, Flash of Genius suffers from an occasional lack of narrative tension.
When it works, it's mostly the result of the compelling and nuanced performance by Greg Kinnear as Robert Kearns, a Detroit engineering professor. His invention, the intermittent windshield wiper, is now a standard fixture on every car. But it came at a huge price for Kearns.
Kearns is introduced as a devoted, if distracted, father of six. But w...
Flash of Genius is largely about how one person's nothing is another person's everything. Take the intermittent windshield wiper, for example. I, for one, had never much thought about who designed it, where it came from or whether there was a story there. For Robert Kearns, however, it becomes the defining object of his life.

great story. goes to show you should never give up no matter how long and hard the battle may be. And also that there are things out there that are greater than money
If you like a great drama story, this one fits. A good message taught here that you should never give up, no matter the situation. Kinnear's character was so strong, he did a super job playing his part. 5/5
Incredible movie very heartfelt. it really showed the message of never giving up. most movies like this turn out way to cheesy or just plain suck but this movie made you really get really attached to the character. 5/5
This film is amazing proberly one of the best of 2008 and even 2009 10/10, great acting by kinnear and the story was good but a bit sad and shows how big companies can screw people over.
it really inspired me to create and know that the [SPOILER]
truth always comes out in the end
. what a great film, about how the intermittent wiper came to be. oh and a little known fact about the windshield wiper itself, it was originaly created by a woman.
Great TRUE story, but at a running time of 120 minutes, just a tad to long for a story that doesnt justify the run time. It's worth watching once, but sadly won't make anyone's DVD collection.
very great strong stroy base of events of real true life read about it in the detroit papers won the trial and thats some of what the movie and some very good acting is about very touching to the ending today.
i caught this on cable the other day,and i thought it was a very good movie, surprisingly entertaining and well worth watching..i will never look at a windshield or a ford the same again.haha 3.4/5
Man am I glad I checked this movie out! Ford was trying to pull some evil crap!I'm so glad that Mr. Kearns kept fighting! Those who doubted him were WRONG! HA! Justice was served!!
If you like a true story movie then this is a classic. Based on one of the most simplest inventions that we all take for granted today! shows how some big companys can rip of your ideas and often get away with it.
