First Do No Harm
Only Meryl Streep could turn a standard disease-of-the-week TV movie into something special. Her mannered performance here as a mother trying to get the best treatment for her epileptic son, while also struggling with marital and financial problems, is yet another of her wrenchingly emotional class acts. Seth Adkins also shines as her son in this gruelling drama, based on a Lorenzo's Oil-type true story, which informs about epilepsy while making pertinent statements about society's attitude towards the condition.
