Fail-SafeDr Strangelove may have captured all the plaudits as the finest nuclear paranoia film ever made, but that's not to say that Fail Safe doesn't deserve its share of the glory as well. The difference is that while Strangelove was a comedy, Fail Safe is straight-faced, edge-of-the-seat stuff, with Fonda as the president who has the small task of saving the world when a series of human and computer glitches mistakenly sends a trio of bombers to nuke Moscow. Not only a damn good thriller, but a terrifying account of how easily such technology can malfunction.
