Drop Dead GorgeousDespite its obvious resemblances to 1975's Smile, this spoof documentary focusing on the behind the scenes goings-ons at a Midwestern beauty pageant still manages to be original and sublimely funny, producing fresh laughs from the genre and finding many more targets to humiliate on film, so cleverly you'll be laughing even as you cringe. Richards and Dunst play, respectively, spoiled little rich kid and sweet-natured trailer park-dweller, but the real joy comes from Alley's domineering performance as Richards' doting mum and pageant organizer. |
