Dr. Dolittle 2
Environmentally-themed comedy sequel to Dr. Dolittle, starring Eddie Murphy as the doc who talks to the animals - who in turn are voiced by an array of Hollywood stars
Eddie Murphy gets chatty with our furry friends again in this good-natured comedy sequel about the gifted doctor. This time Dr Dolittle's unique animal-understanding skills are called upon for an environmental cause, as a forest is under threat from evil developers. The only way that the habitat can be saved is to prove that the land is home to an endangered species - which would be the Pacific Western bear. Thing is, there's only one of them, so it's no-go on the breeding front. In comes Dr D with a performing Pacific Western bear, Archie (voiced by Zahn), who he must introduce to the wild and to the lady bear, Ava (voiced by Kudrow). It turns out that Ava likes 'em rough, so the singing and dancing bear is going to have to get a little more down and dirty than he thought... This may sound like a terrifying prospect to anyone over 10, but this is a reasonably well-crafted and well-acted movie, so it gets away with a lot more than it should. The jokes are carefully placed to appeal to both adults and kids (take the circus bear entering his mission with a performance of 'I Will Survive') and the pace is lively. While the educational agenda feels a little laboured, this is a light, enjoyable big-budget family movie. |
