Desperate HoursThis melodramatic remake of the 1955 Wyler classic is marred by Cimino's tendency to go totally over the top with visuals at the expense of a strong script and convincing characterizations. Rourke, Koteas and Morse are the hoodlums who break into a suburban house and hold the family hostage. The family are going through their own crisis, with Rogers and Hopkins playing the estranged couple trying to patch up their marriage. Rourke is the nutter who has a cunning plan to extricate himself from the increasingly frantic situation. Horribly overacted and not a scrap on the original. |
