Days of Wine and RosesThe unlikely pairing of comedy great Lemmon and Pink Panther director Edwards in this dead straight story works surprisingly well. Lemmon and Remick are a well-heeled married couple whose penchant for a social drink gradually becomes full-blown alcoholism. Blake traces their descent into the bottle and their harrowing fight back to sobriety without pulling any punches. Lemmon is particularly effective (and Remick is no slouch in the acting department, either), but some of the handwringing angst in the script can get a little wearing. Originally a TV play, this an early example of Hollywood mining the small screen for ideas.
