Dangerous MindsA lack-lustre, inexplicably successful blockbuster, in which Michelle Pfeiffer assumes the role of real-life military gal turned teacher LouAnne Johnson, and changes the lives of a bunch of remedial, inner-city delinquents.
Pfeiffer, trying to tempt her sceptical students with candy-scented bribes, is as watchable as ever, but the film boasts every classroom cliche in the book: the bright kid who actually wants to learn, the inevitably doomed rebel, the run-ins with the authorities. By the time everybody comes together for a finale horribly reminiscent of Dead Poets Society (but with none of the emotional punch), you'll be willing it to end.
