Carbon CopySegal strikes again and Washington makes his film debut in this comedy drama about a Jewish advertising executive who, having hidden his true identity from the WASP-ish San Marino community he lives in, discovers it's less easy to hide the illegitimate black son (Washington) he knew nothing about who suddenly appears on the scene. Topical for its time (1981), it tries to make a serious point about interracial relationships and hiding behind identities, but loses a lot of mileage at the expense of the jokes. It might have worked better as drama or dark satire.
