Captain Nemo and the Underwater CityA little hard on a modestly budgeted British film to follow in the wake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, with its Disney budget and starry cast, but this straightforward adventure movie inspired by Jules Verne is entertaining if a little overlong, and refreshing in its directness. No egos seem to be on board the submarine Nautilus, and even though Ryan was looking a little weary, he brings characteristic integrity to the movie. There's a great squid giving grief, and a couple of comic-turn gun-runners for light relief.
