A different approach from Ang Lee
I live in Brighton, and there's a big wave of excitement about this film over here, as you can imagine. So obviously I was tempted to be one of the first people to see it. I was skeptical that it would be nothing more than a poor attempt at a love story between two people of the same gender, but I was very mistaken. This film is convincing, tender and warming.

The story is a hard one to portray, especially for the big screen, but Ang Lee has achieved it beautifully. The film itself is fairly slow moving, but never is it boring.

It starts in the 1960's, with the story of two poor cowboys looking for employment. They are given the hard task of herding sheep across the Bro...

A Masterpiece
Forget the reductive 'gay cowboy film' tag as this is the masterpiece that Ang Lee has been threatening to make for a few years now.

The film, about two men who fall in love on Brokeback Mountain, and then find it impossible to ever recapture that moment of fleeting joy is a masterclass in filmmaking. From Lee's sensitive and unobtrusive directing through the actors' beautifully nuanced performances to the stately cinematography the film has all the hallmarks expected of great cinema.

A lovestory to be appreciated by all
Probably the most romantically painful film you'll ever see. It's beautiful cinematography will leave you breathless as well as the incredible performances by Jake Gyllenhaal and in particular Heath Ledger.

Set in the wilds of Wyoming and Texas it follows the love affair of two very different people who long to be together yet are forced apart by society. Only nature is forcing them back together. The torment is torrential.

Besides being very sexy young cowboys there is an element of empathy that you cannot help but feel for the both of them and can fully understand how and why they conducted their affair as they did.

I am a straight male and this is one of my all time favourite movies. No over the top male nudity or OTT gay action to put the lads off the film. Heath Ledger and Jake are both Superb in career high roles. Bet even the straightest of men have to admit this is a beautiful film and makles you think love is everywhere. Superb. Heath Ledger is a legend and the best Australian Actor ever. Watch this and reserve judgement till you do!!

ive seen this movie quite a few times and everytime it brings tears to my eyes.

I am a straight guy and married to a wonderful lady,every person in her family refuses to watch as do a few people i work with just because its 2 men.boy they are missing out.

whether man/woman man/man woman/woman love isnt wrong.

..I can't believe how sad this film is at the end :(

I'd skim-read a spoiler on here but man I didn't think it would be that sad..

Heath's character was so sad and lonely at the end it was heartbreaking.. [SPOILER]

Ohh man.. :| again on such a downer after watching that, such a beautiful film, I love it so much, it's so real and so emotional :( .. it's just so beautiful and the emotions conveyed by Jake + Heath are phenomanol they really are..it's one of those films where you cringe when you think of it, 'cause you wanna make everything alright, you want to change the ending..but you know you can't and it plays on ur mind even more dayum.. kinda like titanic...

Ennis's character is so mysterious but at the same time seems so lonely and keeps to himself, didn't bring out much of what Heath Ledger has inside of him in other roles, but he brought the character to life as he does in every film hes ever done, he's phenomanol tbh, it's really unbelivably sad that he can't be in any more movies, and that we can't see him anymore :( but his recent roles in the dark knight and the immaginarium of dr parnassus have really left something for the world to remember, R.I.P Heath Ledger..

I was reluctant to watch this movie due to fears on how the two gay men would be perceived, however this was a very beautiful movie that any non-homophobic person would appreciate. Heath and Jake were brilliant although I didn't like Jake's character with a moustache. [SPOILER]

I'm not for all that cowboy man loving, I could only watch one-third of the film so technically this doesn't count as a "legit" review, sorry.

Sidenote: But I respect any and everyone's preference towards a life partner, my condolences go out to Heath Leger's family and very close friends.
