Rather Dull and still felt overlong
I know we all compare this to the much loved tv series which was not exactly a barrel of laughs but this film really was very dull and felt extremely long. It felt longer than the tv series and a story so complex and deep would have great trouble being made into a movie in the first place. All the actors were brilliant, especially Matthew Goode who continues to interest me (he still reminds me of Rupert Everett) but I did look forward to this movie very much and it did drag on. The exquisite settings did not enliven the film and I just think it was sadly very dull.

Those who are weary of summer's bawdy comedies and superheroes will be heartened by Brideshead Revisited, which is grandly revisited as a feature film.

The adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's 1945 novel is not as nuanced as the lavish 12-hour British television series, shown on PBS in 1981. But the pre-World War II story of lost innocence is intelligently written by Andrew Davies (Bridget Jones's Diary) and Jeremy Brock (The Last King of Scotland) and handsomely mounted by director Julian Jarrold (Becoming Jane).

I enjoyed the movie; I like English/British movies and TV, so, expected as much. All 'so proper' and all, yet what I expect and enjoy about British period pieces.

It was a nice change of pace; slower, yes, but what the times called for. I haven't seen this particular set of characters, yet thought they were well acted and 'fit' well.

Beautiful scenery, period piece, has everything, war, wealth, education, royality, duty, elitism, RC church/homosexuality, bisexuality, alcoholism, pre-AIDS years, mean mommy (all her fault, of course), more ugly here than beautiful. I don't care for Evelyn Waugh, I guess, and this is not one of my favorites.
