Just as somber as The Good Shepherd, the most recent domestic spy drama, but more tightly focused, Breach absorbingly zeroes in on how the FBI nailed the most damaging turncoat in American history. Efficiently and clearly laid out, director Billy Ray's follow-up to his curiously similar debut film Shattered Glass lacks the pulse-quickening elements that would make it a real crowd-pleaser. All the same, Universal should be able to use good reviews to draw a decent audience for a picture that offers a serious-minded alternative to the general run of mindless mid-winter fodder.
In an event that was overshadowed in the wake of 9/11, veteran FBI agent Robert Han...
Filled with tension, deception and bravura acting, Breach is a crackling tale of real-life espionage that doubles as a compelling psychological drama. Its core is not the minutiae of spying but the push-pull complexities of intricate human relationships, and in Ryan Phillippe, Laura Linney and especially the formidable Chris Cooper, it has the cast to bring it all intensely alive.
The title comes from a clip of a Feb. 19, 2001, news conference statement by John Ashcroft that opens the film. Describing the arrest the day before of veteran FBI agent Robert Hanssen for spying, the then attorney general described "a very serious breach in the security of the U...
Breach Chris Cooper stars as an ageing FBI officer with a dark secret, and Ryan Phillipe as the young agent aiming to uncover it. Spy drama based on a true story
Influenced by the edgy, politically-hued dramas of the 1970s like The Conversation and All the President's Men, Breach initially seems like it's going to be a typical spy thriller, with a game of cat-and-mouse between a double agent and the man sent to catch him. However, the film has other plans in mind, closely following the true story of the biggest security breach in US history, while also once again proving Chris Cooper to be one of the most interesting and reli...

Some of the people commenting said that this was boring, perhaps they should watch action movies instead. This was a fantastic spy thriller which kept me entertained throughout the entire film. Well written and well cast. Chris Cooper's performance was perfect! Try it and see for yourself. 8/10.
It is a brilliant story of two people who come from two totally diffrent ways but in their path to achieve what they want their path intertwines. This movie is pure brilliance loved it from start to finish Idont get these ''boring'' comments not boring at all its a good movie if your into comedy or gunfights its not for you, this is more of a mystery drama thriller and its really well done.
I didn't find this boring. Its leisurely pace was deliberate; possibly to stress the psychological thriller within the plot, and play down the action aspects. It rates around 7/10 for my taste.
Didn't ever hear about this guy, & if I would have, I wouldn't have given a rat's ass. This movie wasn't too bad though. It was pretty surprising to actually see the extent to which some will go, for both purpose & cause.
I liked this film, it had me guessing what was going to happen next and if the person in question was going to get caught out, an all round good cast too, 4/5..
not bad, good drama or thriller, which ever way you look at it, 4/5, good solid actors in cast, plot was some what subdued and little bit low on the tech side, but that was nice for a change. good to see more actor skills and less gadetry.
