best of the Bounty films
This would be a 5 star movie, if Mel Gibson, Liam Neeson and Daniel Day Lewis did not not look SO new romantic, their hair and all. Of course, the movie is set in the 18th century, yet one can tell it was filmed in the 1980s. The soundtrack by Vangelis rather underscores this discrepancy. Not one of those timeless because authentic historical seafaring movies such as Master and Commander. However, the acting is great (Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins are amazing, Day Lewis and Neesam impress in early screen roles) - the plot is in accordance with the then latest theories on the truth behind the famous mutiny - and the absence of the schmalz of the 60s Marlon Brando version make this a great watch, not at last because of the great pictures of pacific idyll.
