BarflyWhat is it with Hollywood? It's desperately trying to convince the world that all writers are drunks (when everyone knows it's only film critics). Anyway, this is another pickled-up-literary-genius flick. Rourke is the alky with the flair for literature, Dunaway is the souse who has to decide whether to continue her love affair with the bottle or replace it with Rourke. Krige is the agent after the wunderkind writer. It all gets intense as they battle with the booze in their own ways, but it never really makes the sparks fly. The script is by one-time alcoholic Bukowski, so the dialogue is convincing if not finally interesting.
