Shaw is an operative for the United Nations' covert dirty-tricks squad, using espionage and quasi-ethical tactics to secure peace and cooperation. When a shipping container full of dead Vietnamese refugees turns up on the docks and China's ambassador is gunned down at a dinner celebrating a new trade agreement with China and the US, Shaw is framed for the murder and must evade the FBI and Triad gangsters to find out what is really going on.
Art of War, The
Overall this is a pretty good film with Wesley Snipes playing the action man as well as always and with a decent story line ticking along to make the whole film very watchable.
Not what you expect....
Given that Snipes (Blade, Demolition Man) and Biehn (Terminator, Aliens) are two of the cast in this film, you could be forgiven for thinking this a testosterone-fuelled action flick. That's not the case however, Art of War is more of a political thriller that tries to deal with the intricacies and machinations of government bodies,corruption and 'people who don't exist'.
The acting is for the most part well up to snuff, apart from the occasional cheesy line here and there - a few plot twists are thrown in for good measure, to keep the viewer guessing. Enjoyable watching, but it will not be to everyone's taste - 3 stars.
Art of War, The
This glossy conspiracy thriller resolutely fails to rise above the ordinary, despite a substantial budget and some star names in the cast. The daft and hackneyed plot has Wesley Snipes as a United Nations "dirty tricks" operative who finds himself framed for the assassination of the Chinese ambassador during some critical trade negotiations. Snipes, whose career has plateaued since showing early promise, only gets really animated in some so-so martial arts sequences. But that's an improvement on Donald Sutherland and Anne Archer, who have rarely looked as bored and listless as they do here, playing, respectively, the UN Secretary-General and his head of covert operations...
