Angels with Dirty FacesA gangster classic that has withstood the test of time, mainly because of Cagney's performance. The director Curtiz compares the lives of Cagney and his boyhood friend O'Brien, who narrowly avoided Cagney's fate by becoming a priest. Against each other, they struggle for the control of the juvenile delinquent Dead End Kids, who hero-worship Cagney but respect O'Brien for his compassion and hard work. Finally, the treachery of Cagney's associates Bogart and Bancroft forces him to make a choice about how he wants to be remembered after his death. A hard-boiled gem.
