A Simple Wish
In this fun family romp, Martin Short plays a fumbling fairy godmother who gets into all sorts of trouble when he tries to grant little Mara Wilson's wish that her actor dad (Robert Pastorelli) finally finds success. More interesting, though, is the conflict the fairy godmothers (including Teri Garr and Ruby Dee) are facing against struck-off fairy-turned-witch Kathleen Turner, who chews up the scenery and spits it out with hilarious venom in a deliciously evil turn. It gets a bit flabby towards the middle, but young viewers will no doubt enjoy the special effects and the comically wicked Turner.
