A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream WarriorsFirst-time director Russell sustains the legend's success with the help of a workable plot and some first-rate special effects. Freddy's back, but so is Langenkamp, the teenage heroine of Wes Craven's original. She's graduated as a psychologist and teams up with a new batch of terrorized teens (including Arquette) to do battle with the sleep demon. Craven's original aimed for the blurred state between dream and reality that John Landis had used so effectively in the alien stormtroopers' scenes of An America Werewolf in London. Russell captures the confusion well and his film succeeds as a result.
