A Little PrincessA lush and lovely children's movie, based on a book by Secret Garden author Frances Hodgson Burnett and directed by Cuaron. Matthews plays Burnett's resourceful heroine Sara Crewe, who is left in a gorgeous New York boarding school under the watchful eye of stern headmistress Bron while her father goes off to war. Bad stuff happens, of course, but intelligence, kindness and a little magic save the day. Cuaron finds the perfect style for this trusted formula; what could have been routine kids' stuff flourishes with his sure feeling for space, light and colour.
