Date of Birth: Director George Hill's best remembered film is the gritty MGM 1930 prison drama Big House. He got his start working as a stagehand for D.W. Griffith when he was only thirteen. Soon afterward he began doing camera work and screenwriting chores. He became a director in the early 1920s and soon became recognized for his creative films. Hill's wife Frances Marion, a screenwriter, frequently worked with him.
