Name: Sina Amedson
Date of Birth: 5 April 1982 His last name at birth was Alibaba...but his father changed it for obvious reasons when Sina was very young. Wrote the scene that introduces his character, Nadar, in the movie Church Ball (2006). The director originally wanted to do something in an airport but couldn't do it, so Sina came up with the idea of having him being mistaken for a taxi driver. He improvised the dialogue. The man getting into the car is the director, Kurt Hale, making his cameo appearance in the film. The scene actually ended with Sina's character finally accepting to take his passenger to where he wanted to go since it was on his way...as long as he buckled up. ... Almost joined the Marines at age 16 to get out of a troubled home life. He signed a document to join the DEP (delayed entry program) and began working out and learning military protocol before backing out of the agreement when things at home calmed down and he got accepted to a university despite having a very low GPA in high school (0.6 up to 11th grade then 3.6 from then on to average a 2.0 by graduation). Studied Pre-medicine and Marketing in college but decided he didn't want to work a 9 to 5 so he dropped out of the University of Utah with 3.5 GPA to study acting. A self proclaimed conspiracy theorist and Libertarian. Had potential to become a semi-pro snowboarder in the late 90s while finishing high school. After breaking his back and his neck in the same year, decided risking his life everyday was fun but not what he wanted to do for a job. He also suffered numerous concussions from snowboarding/skateboarding accidents as well as a direct consequence from being the smallest player on his high school football team. Has 3 sisters, one of whom he has never met in person since she lives in Iran and immigration policy has made it hard for the two to meet in person. Parents are divorced and remarried. Father/stepmother live in Seattle, Washington while mother/stepfather live in Salt Lake City, Utah. He calls both places home. Traveling has always been a part of his life. Began producing his own stand up comedy shows in various bars and rock venues in 2006 around Salt Lake City. Creating what he has coined "The Underground Comedy Movement" of Salt Lake City (aka U.C.M. S.L.C.) where he was drawn, with no budget, acts such as Lewis Black, Doug Stanhope, Ron Shock, Sean Rouse, Auggie Smith, Andy Andrist, Martha Kelly, Tig Notaro and Steve Agee. Plus many more. Has been a working stand up comedian since 2003. After progressing very quickly, he won second place in the Statewide Utah Amateur Comedy Competition in 2003, a mere 3 months after his first time on stage at Wiseguys Comedy Cafe. Has been an improviser with the improvisational troupe Comedy Sportz (Provo chapter) since 2002. Volunteered to do the role in Reflections in the Mud with no guarantee of getting paid based solely on his faith in the script and his good friend, Nyk Fry's directing and passion toward the project. Is very good friends with fellow actors Trenton James, Christopher Robin Miller, Kirby Heyborne, Curt Doussett, Larry Bagby and Matt Mattson. As well as comedians Sean Rouse, Doug Stanhope, Andy Andrist, Auggie Smith, and Ron Shock. Became good friends with co-star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar II after sharing a trailer together on the set of Church Ball. They spent their downtime on set watching the HBO Original movie Rebound which featured Kareem's father and was a pivotal film in Sina's life. They also watched lots of Da' Ali G show which was the inspiration for Sina's character, Nadar, in the film. He based the character on Sacha Baron Cohen's now-famous Borat character. Kareem joined Sina on a few of his stand up gigs to see what the world of stand up was like from behind the scenes on their days off from filming Church Ball. The two now stay in touch and get together whenever possible. Read more Sina Amedson movies (actor)User Comments |
