Name: Peter Glenville
Date of Birth: Educated at Stonyhurst College, Lancashire, England, UK Studied Law at Oxford University. Son of Shaun Glenville. Was slated to direct the film version of "Man of La Mancha", but was let go by United Artists when they learned that he planned to eliminate nearly all of the songs and make a "straight" dramatic film of the musical. It was Glenville who brought in most of the principal actors, which is why the film is largely cast with Shakespearean actors who had never sung before in a film. ... Was nominated for Broadway's Tony Award four times: as Best Director, in 1957 for Terence Rattigan's "Separate Tables," and in 1959 for "Rashomon;" as Best Director (Musical) in 1960 for "Take Me Along;" and as Best Director (Dramatic) in 1963 for "Tchin-Tchin."
