Yugoslav-born character actor who appeared in a number of ethnic roles in '40s and '50s Hollywood films. Married eight times with six children, one of his wives was high fashion model Roselle Calvert, and one of their sons, Peter Knego, is a noted ship historian and record producer. Preferred the stage and was the first to admit that his films did not show his best work. ... Trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in England. He was a drinking pal and particularly close friend of schlock director Edward D. Wood Jr.. In fact, when Wood was evicted from his Hollywood apartment, he and wife Kathy moved in with Peter in Peter's North Hollywood apartment. On December 10, 1978, only days after the move, Wood, who had serious drinking issues, died of an alcohol-induced heart attack while resting in Peter's home. Director/friend Edward D.
