Date of Birth: 12 February 1936 Gained attention playing larger-than-life entertainment legends on 70s TV. Portrayed Orson Welles in the TV movie The Night That Panicked America (1975) (TV) and Florenz Ziegfeld Jr. in Ziegfeld: The Man and His Women (1978) (TV). A founding member, actor, director, and teacher of the American Conservatory Theatre (ACT) in San Francisco, he played more than 40 roles there, including "Hamlet," "Oedipus Rex" and "Tiny Alice." Known for his unsympathetic portrayals, he voiced the evil rat Jenner in the animated feature The Secret of NIMH (1982). ... Father's name was Eugene Joseph Shenar; Mother's name was Mary Rosella Puhek-Shenar. Made his Broadway debut as 'Brother Julian' in the production of "Tiny Alice" circa 1965. Made his Off-Broadway debut as 'Michael' in "Pullman Car Hiawatha" at the Circle in the Square in 1962. Recorded his dialogue for the evil rat Jenner in The Secret of NIMH (1982) before he actually saw the character design. After seeing Jenner's character design, he requested to re-record some of his dialogue so that he could get the "performance" just right. Was a very good friend of Marsha Mason. They worked together on several ACT Productions, and Shenar even put in a good word for her to the higher ups. He is also mentioned in Mason's autobiography, "Odyssey: A Personal Journey" several times. Attended and Graduated from the University of Wisconsin. Was one of four children; He had three brothers.
