Date of Birth: Mel Rodriguez is an award-winning writer/director and film editor. His short film, Mockingbird showed at film festivals across the country leading directly to the development of a film from his original feature screenplay for Mockingbird. Rodriguez has worked as a professional writer since the age of 24. He has been published in national magazines such as People Magazine and was a frequent contributor to MovieMaker Magazine having written profiles and interviewed such independent film luminaries... as Robert Rodriguez (2005's Sin City, Desperado) and Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me). In 2004, Mr. Rodriguez was hired to serve as film editor on director Michael Philip's feature directorial debut Drop Dead Sexy, a dark comedy starring Jason Lee (NBC's My Name is Earl, Vanilla Sky) and Crispin Glover (Back to the Future). The film had its Red Carpet World Premiere at the 2005 SXSW Film Festival and opened to great reviews and an enthusiastic audience. Immediately following Drop Dead Sexy, Rodriguez went on to edit McCartney's Genes starring Ron Livingston (Swingers, Sex and the City). McCartney's Genes has the distinction of being the first and as of yet, the only feature film ever to be allowed to shoot on the actual Austin City Limits stage. Following that, Rodriguez edited a documentary produced by Steven Spielberg's Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation at Universal Studios. Most recently, Rodriguez has been working on National Lampoon's Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj, the sequel to the hit comedy Van Wilder starring Ryan Reynolds.
