Name: Joanna Pettet
Date of Birth: 16 November 1942 This beautiful, stylish London-born blonde started out quite promising on the stage and in late 60s films before phasing her career out in the 90s. Joanna Pettet was born Joanna Jane Salmon and raised in Canada. Her father, a British Royal Air Force pilot, was killed in WWII. Her trek to New York to study at the Neighborhood Playhouse paid off with subsequent Broadway roles in "Take Her, She's Mine" (debut: understudy to 'Elizabeth Ashley (I)' (qv)), "The Chinese Prime Minister" and "Poor Richar... d" with 'Alan Bates (I)' (qv), which earned her the Theatre World Award in 1965. A steady role on _"The Doctors" (1963)_ (qv) daytime soap occurred around this time. Escorted to Hollywood, Joanna stood her own ground among the other talented hopefuls such as 'Candice Bergen' (qv), 'Shirley Knight (I)' (qv), 'Jessica Walter (I)' (qv) and the late 'Joan Hackett' (qv) and 'Elizabeth Hartman (I)' (qv) in the glossy Ivy-League film soap _The Group (1966)_ (qv). Continuing on, she proved a diverting love interest in the British thriller _Robbery (1967)_ (qv) and in the French/English co-production _The Night of the Generals (1967)_ (qv), and was one of the more interesting figures to come out of the elephantine James Bond spoof _Casino Royale (1967)_ (qv), in which she played the fetching, exotic-dancing Mata Bond. A versatile player, she was unfortunately cast in roles that emphasized her beauty than talent. Playboy magazine took an interest, gracing a nude pictorial in 1968, the same year she married actor 'Alex Cord' (qv). A host of bad films, however, such as _Blue (1968)_ (qv) and _The Best House in London (1969)_ (qv) put the bite on her film career. In the 70s, she was prominently featured in standard TV-movies such as _The Weekend Nun (1972) (TV)_ (qv), _Pioneer Woman (1973) (TV)_ (qv), _A Cry in the Wilderness (1974) (TV)_ (qv), _"Thriller" (1973) {A Midsummer Nightmare (#6.6)}_ (qv) (aka Appointment with a Killer), _"Captains and the Kings" (1976)_ (qv), _Sex and the Married Woman (1977) (TV)_ (qv) and _The Return of Frank Cannon (1980) (TV)_ (qv). Series work included _"Night Gallery" (1970)_ (qv) and _"Harry O" (1973)_ (qv) but nothing led to her stretching her abilities. By the late 70s, she was appearing in "has-been" shows like _"Fantasy Island" (1978)_ (qv) and _"The Love Boat" (1977)_ (qv). Little seen after that her career ended in low-budget dreck such as _Double Exposure (1983)_ (qv), _Sweet Country (1987)_ (qv) and _Terror in Paradise (1990)_ (qv). Since then, Joanna has been out of the scene. Divorced from Cord in 1989, her only child, Damien Zachary Cord, fell into a fatal coma after an acute heroin overdose in 1995 at age 26. She later became the care-giver and companion of her friend, actor 'Alan Bates (I)' (qv), until his death from cancer in 2003.Read more Joanna Pettet movies (actor)
