Awarded a Tony in 1986 for his direction in "The House of Blue Leaves." Has won Broadway's Tony Award four times: in 1986, as Best Director (Play) for "The House of Blue Leaves;" in 1989, as Best Director (Play) for "Lend Me a Tenor;" in 1991, as Best Director (Play), for "Six Degrees of Separation;" and in 1992, as Best Director (Musical), for a revival of "Guys and Dolls."
