Born July 30, 1948 in Casablanca, Morocco of Spanish parents. He studied at the Cours Simon drama school in Paris in 1970, which was founded by French actor René Simon in 1925. The 6’ 2” actor made his stage debut in “Ecce Homo” in 1974, and his screen debut in 1978, playing a small role in "L'Hypothese du tableau vole". Reno brought a human persona to an amoral character in Besson’s “La Femme ” (1991) in which he co-starred with Annie Parillaud, and again as a similar character in Besson’s well received action drama Léon (also known as The Professional and Léon: The Professional) along side and in her first starring role. Reno was again nominated for a César for ‘best actor’ for Léon (1994). Reno was nominated for an ‘Audience Award’ for ‘best actor’ for his portrayal of the detective commissioner Pierre Niemans in Mathieu Kassovitz’s mystery thriller “Les Rivières pourpres” () (2000), and again played a detective in Besson’s fast moving dramedy “” (2001), before co-starring as a businessman with Juliet Binoche in the romantic comedy “” (2002). In 2005 he appeared in “La Tigre e La Neve” and “L’empire des Loups” before co-starring with as a detective in “ (2006). Reno played Bezu Fache in Ron Howard’s “” (2006).
