Has twice been a panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts. Served on the Dartmouth College Board of Overseers for the Hopkins Center for the Perforning Arts Serves on the Board of the Foundation for Bio-Medical Research and the Advisory Panel for the Council for Children's Rights A long time spokesperson for childrens' and educational issues. ... Once married to Meredith Baxter (Elyse Keaton on "Family Ties" (1982)), whom he met while filming their television series "Bridget Loves Bernie" (1972) in 1972. They have three children: a daughter, Kate, and twins named Mollie and Peter (b. 1984). Although one of his earliest TV roles was that of Bernie Steinberg, a Jewish man who falls in love with an Irish woman, he is Irish himself and was once the Grand Marshal of the parade for the Irish Faire held in Burbank, California in the late 1980s.
