Date of Birth: 8 October 1944 Served as a combat correspondent with the 1st Marine Division in Vietnam in 1967-68. A fellow combat correspondent in the same unit was the late Gustav Hasford. Hasford wrote "The Short-Timers," the Vietnam novel on which the movie Full Metal Jacket (1987) was based. Daughter is actress Adrienne Dye. His Alma Mater, Missouri Military Academy, has a long-standing football rivalry with another nearby military academy, Kemper. Kemper was used as the filming location for Child's Play 3 (1991). ... Son: Christopher Dye - Music Composer. During the Second Gulf War, Dye was hired by Los Angeles radio station KFI as a military commentator and given a two-hour radio show.
