Has a 3rd Degree Blackbelt in Kyokushin, 2nd Degree Blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do and 2nd Degree Blackbelt in Karate. Won 14 straight Muay-Thai boxing matches by knockout before suffering his first defeat. Fought in Japan, the USA and in Europe. Had a 28-4-1 mixed martial arts record and retired without losing for the last four years of his career. He had intended to vacate the UFC Heavyweight championship to compete in the under 200 lbs class, but injuries kept him from competing again after his Heavyweight championship win over Kevin Randleman at UFC 20. ... Has defeated MMA champions Minoru Suzuki, Maurice Smith, Frank Shamrock, Guy Mezger, Masakatsu Funaki, Tsuyoshi Kohsaka, and Kevin Randleman. Considered one of the top 5 greatest fighters in mixed-martial art's history. Former Dutch Muay-Thai Champion Former 3 time Undefeated King of Pancrase Scored 11 of his wins by knockout. Worked as a ringside commentator for PRIDE Fighting Championships in Japan. He is now working for the International Fight League (IFL). Won his last 21 straight fights. Began his mixed martial art's career on September 21, 1993 by knocking out Ryushi Yanagisawa in Japan. Was nicknamed El Guapo after Alfonso Arau's character in John Landis' Three Amigos.
