Born in London on July 25, 1863. Originally a Broadway actress with extensive experience portraying grand dames. Skipworth shifted to Hollywood as character actress of the 30's, specializing in playing aristocratic types. She is better remembered, however, in association with her antagonist in three screen comedies - none other than 'W.C. Fields' (qv).
