A professional boxer before becoming a professional rugby league player with Halifax Blue Sox. In 1996 he was a member of Silk Cut Challenge, cup winners in that year, although he did not play in the final for the comeback Kings St. Helens RLFC. He also played for Warrington Wolves until his acting career took off.
The youngest player to play for the Isle of Man rugby team and winner of a super league medal with St. Helens rugby league club in 1996.
